Arcticle: My review on book: Refabricated Architecture by Keiren TimerlakeIn this book,Authors have presented a comparision between present construction process and aerospace,shipping and automobile industry.Authors have shown a great graphic presentations and research evidences which shows that how construction industry can learn from their related industries by applying several steps of process.Author has described that Architecture is not only an Art but little good trade has involved.Art become a luxury but only if it has some economic value.In 15th,19th century most important part was Architecture and more human energy was invested in Architectural work and value of building was dependent on its Architecture. Author has shown that making by hand was only way in our building history.We adopt some machine craft in twentieth century and it is still a dream of various Architects to fully adopt the machine craft.In twentieth century vernacular architecture arose.Vernacular construction was the result of connection between design,need and modern buildings¹.Now Architecture donot have certain style and its becoming more commercial.Art today is the mean of transformation of production that means that we decide the scope ,value and time,the three most important elements before designing.We donot have to regret that we have design an ugly building as we know today what would be end product through technology.So Architecture and construction has transformed today in technology.Architecture today is not only a Art but technology.The Author has described that "quality and scope are directly proportional to cost and time²." that means these all four factors are dependent on each other and these are important aspect of building construction .But today this theory has failed.Client is demanding more for less that means demand of high quality and good scope for less cost and time.Author has decribed transformation in construction field.In history there were master builders who design,construct and built themselves.They were engineers,Architects,Masons etc.But now situation is different.Architectural production is divided into components.There is an specialist for different functions.Architecture has become the production. Automobile,shipping,aerospace industry,construction industry has also developed models of engagement that joined all acts of design and production.There is no need of forced designing today.Designers need not to be controlled from startt till end.Probems occurs in designing can be break down in an structure and can be solved separately or together³.Author has compared building design to car design.Author pressurize on prefabricated buildings by giving example of car and by explaining how building can be designed as car.As we know that prefabricated construction has failed in various part of word and people donot like to live in prefabricated house.They donot feel safe,comfort in these type of building .Author has done an small effort to change this thinking by explaining the excellent form of refabricated errorless Architecture."Architecture requires deep control, not merely of an idea, but ,also of the stuff ,we use to give form to the idea4"that means that architecture is not an art but also a function to perform.So Architects create Architecture in equal measures with their ideas and materials.By allowing architecture to get reduced and following material science,assembly,product development we can create new era in building construction.Role of Architect today is centered on how to form an idea,use of place and use of that idea.So Architects has to focus of assembly,products and materials rather than designing an idea.Author has implemented use of material science in today construction.they remared that material science is not an style but a purpose to change the process of architecture.Author has focused that we are using same materials since 15th century and we have very limited materials to use.So we have to focus on inventions of new materials in our industry.Why everyday a new invention occur in field of automobile,aerospace and in shipping.Why we are living in an old world of construction?So the need is to focus on various new measure through which we can create inventions in construction industry.Author has focused on roles of Product Engineers,Contractors,Architects and other personnels and define that how these roles can re- modeled.Author has told importance of information management used in form of regulatory system and allow design and construction to get organized.Enabling communication is an important aspect and we should remember this through out the process.Architecture industry has moved from manual drafting to computer drafting but today also potential to solid model has not adopted.Architects are using computers for 2d drafting and 3d presentations.Author has compared aircrafts with buildings.According to author buildings are represtated and aircraft are modeled.5that means that building are represented by plans,elevations,sections,views and Aircrafts modeled by breaking into components.So evolution is required into field of Architecture.Author has focused on ship building and compared to building construction.They focus on assembly architecture piece by piece to transform the architecture.The focus was on moduar production of cars,aircrafts,ships and to implement same idea into buildings.New architecture requires new invented theories and form of joining.We have to focus on joints used in different parts of buildings.Prefabrictaed Architecture failed because of joints so we have to focus on that area.Author determined this twentieth century era of Architecture was a falure.So the important thing is that we should overreach reasons why we get failed?We have to get more focus on inventions in commodity architecture,new methods of fabrication,new assembly methods rather than implementing that old Architecture.We can succeed now by replacing mass customization to mass production.Architecture which formed in factories in sections requires new ways to controls,rquire training and development of new techniques to implement that on site.Form is the responsibility of designer and Architcture requires materiality today.Site injuries,safety in building construction can be increase by building a building inside a building.Use of mass communication and training to impiment the assembly product on site required.So a revolution required ,a new revolution of fabrication not of construction.I like this book very much.This book tells about revolution required in the field of fabrication.This book defines a new architecture mixed with commodity.Book has focused on correction required in prefabrication and what we need to implement new process of Architecture.I like all phrases which I have defined above.The one phrase I like the most-"Art and community,once the double soul of Architecture,have now split and succumbed to specialization-chose your world."This phrase tells that architecture now rest in 21st century,our methods of defining,making and realizing architecture rest in 20th century even in 19th 15th century.We represents Architecture in two dimention,while we are technically perfect to see it in three dimension more accurate and complete.I am inspired by author to implent his ideas into design.These ideas require a change in field of architecture,a big change,change in designing methods,books and if fabrication become a relovution it will change picture of construction industry.The necessity is to focus on why this method of building has get failed.We are adopting partial pre fabrication but the necessity is to change the whole thing- getting into fabrication from construction.I donot have anything to crtisize but Author has focused more on cars,planes and ships and their building and assemblies rather than buildings.Author has not mentioned that how building can be assembled perfectly and what measures requires to make the change.I donot like some waste graphic presentations which were tough to understand and were focused on other industries rather than Architecture.I have read a similar book"Towards the new Architecture" by le-Corbusier.He has focus on end products rather than on assembly architecture."Elements of New Architecture" by same author was also an interesting edition which has focused more on components of assembly.I have learned lots of things from this book.This book isso useful and inspired me as an Architect to start my research to implement this change and to invent that how can we start a new era of Architecture,A period of fabrication and assembly Architecture.It has pressurize me to think that what I have learned,old architecture that require a change.My eduction need an update if I want to change the future picture of construction.This book was an inspiring book to me and I want to thanks Mr.Ali Talib,my Professor who has introduced me to this book.I would think differently from today and the picture of true-Architecture is in front of me .
